Every opportunity, won or lost, provides valuable insights into your sales process. Comparing the primary reasons why you won or lost opportunities over a period of time can help to identify the strengths and weaknesses in your sales efforts.
-
The Opportunity Win Reasons page includes a list of different reasons why opportunities are won. Users can select one of these reasons from the Opportunity Win Reason field when they create or edit an opportunity, and when they use the Won Opportunity Wizard or Won Quote Wizard.
-
The Opportunity Loss Reasons page includes a list of different reasons why opportunities are lost. Users can select one of these reasons from the Opportunity Loss Reason field when they create or edit an opportunity, and when they use the Lost Opportunity Wizard or Lost Quote option.
Autotask provides an initial list of basic reasons, and you can add additional reasons as needed to fit your sales process. Up to 100 reasons are allowed.
- To open the page, use the path(s) in the Security and navigation section above.
- Click the New Win Reason or the New Loss Reason button.
- Enter a Name and Description.
- Click to select the Active check box if you want the reason to be available immediately. Or, you can leave the check box cleared until you are ready to use the reason.
- Click Save.
NOTE The list order determines the order in the Win Reason and Loss Reason field selection menus.

IMPORTANT To preserve data integrity, Autotask prevents deletion of entities that have dependent entities or are referenced elsewhere! If you are unable to delete an entity, you should inactivate it to make it unavailable for use. |
You can use opportunity categories to limit the available win/loss reasons per category. If selected, only those reasons that have been made available on the associated opportunity category will appear on the opportunity and within the Won/Lost Opportunity and Won/Lost Quote wizards. Refer to The Details tab.
Autotask records opportunity won and loss reasons and makes the data available through dashboard widgets and reports. When you add or edit an opportunity or run the opportunity wizard, you can select from the win and loss reasons you configured here. Additionally, two fields, Win Reason Details and Loss Reason Details, appear with the Win (or Loss) Reason field on the Add/Edit Opportunity and Opportunity Wizard pages. Users can enter additional useful details into this text field.
- The widget library includes several opportunity widgets that report on the reasons opportunities are won. Refer to Opportunities widgets.
- You can also report on the Win Reason, Win Reason Details, and Competitor fields using LiveReports.
